2023 Lotus Bank Abeokuta 10km Race: 42 Foreign Runners To Compete

A total of 42 foreign long distance runners have indicated interest in competing at the 2023 edition of the Lotus Bank Abeokuta 10km Race, which has been scheduled to hold in the Ogun state capital city on September 9.  The 10km race will flag off at the Iyana Oloke, Onikolobo and finish at the entrance to the Alake of Egbaland Palace, Ake, Abeokuta. The foreign winners at the 2023 Abeokuta 10km Race, which is the third edition of the 10km race will go home with a total prize money of twelve thousand five hundred dollars. The breakdown of the prizes according to the Chief Executive Officer / Managing Director of Nilayo Sports Management Company, Chief Bukola Olopade, would see the champion of the 3rd Abeokuta 10km Race go home with a cash prize of five thousand dollars, second place winner $3000, third place $2,000 and fourth place $1,500 and fifth place $1,000 making a total of $12,000. The Nigeria Teqball contingent to the African Beach Games Hammamet 2023 made up of three Athletes and a Coach departed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on board Asky to Lome-Accra and Turkish Airlines to Istanbul-Tunis. The delegation which is led by the Head of Technical & Education of the Federation Mr. Abdul Bajeh is estimated to arrive Tunis by 9:20am on Wednesday 21st June 2023. 29-year-old Chemical Engineering graduate shared the story of how she entered the male-dominated Formula 1 paddock, where she became the first black woman to stand atop the Formula 1 podium. “Growing up, when I watched F1 the representation wasn’t there. Until Lewis Hamilton came into the picture, there was no one there that looked like me to inspire me. He was the person that did that for me despite him not being an Engineer,” the lifelong motorsport fan said. 2023 Ladies In Sports Conference Focuses On Fight Against Human Trafficking

A one-day conference at the Marriott Hotels, Ikeja, Lagos, held on Friday the 16th of June 2023 discussed and agreed on collaborative modalities to tackle human trafficking and modern slavery in Sports.  The event was hosted by Ladies In Sports, a Nigerian based foundation, which brought together personalities from all works of life to design efforts to end this human right violation. “Expanding the fight against human trafficking” was the topic of the next panel of the conference moderated by Dr. May Ikeora, a human rights and women empowerment advocate.  During the session, speakers Laurent De Boeck - Chief of Mission of International Organization for Migration (IOM) to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Ojonuka Ajuda, Head of Women’s Football at Integral pointed out that human trafficking in sports does not only affect men.   Segun Ijitola Football club of Surulere, emerged the new champion of the Victor Ikpeba Football Challenge 2023. The Football Challenge which was in its third edition was played at its traditional venue, the Obele Odan Community Centre,  Fujah. A total of eight teams participated in the Five-A-Side Football competition whose theme at the third edition is 'Appreciation'. As the sponsor of the event, the 1997 African Footballer of the Year, Victor Ikpeba said, was hosted in appreciation of the great opportunity given to him by his country Nigeria, to become a worldclass soccer star. In the final match played  on Monday, June 12 at the Obele Odan Community Centre,  Fujah, FC Segun Ijitola defeated Chidi Chukwuka FC 2-0 to lift the Gold Cup, gold medals and a cash prize of two hundred thousand naira.   The winners at the 3rd edition of the Victor Ikpeba Football Challenge, will take home a total cash prize of four hundred and fifty thousand naira at the Five Aside Football event which has been scheduled for June 12, at the Obele Odan Community Centre,  Fujah, Surulere,  Lagos. Edo State First Lady, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, has inaugurated the Organising Committee for the 2023 Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament (BOWFT).  Speaking during the inauguration of the committee at the Government House, Benin City, Mrs. Obaseki urged the members to improve on the success recorded in previous editions of the tournament. The 9-man committee headed by Yusuf Alli, has the Permanent Secretary, Edo State Sports Commission, Mrs. Sabina Chikere as Secretary. Other members of the committee include Hon.
