Gov. Okpebolo Rewards Edo Governors Cup Champions With Brand-New Buses
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebolo rewarded the champions of the 2025 Edo Governors Cup with brand-new Toyota Hiace buses.
In an electrifying finale held on Tuesday, 27th May 2025, Ogbe Secondary School stamped their authority in the male category, defeating St. Peter's Grammar School, Agenebode 3-0. Goals from Osifo Believe, Idor Samuel, and Izregba Ogijo secured a convincing victory and crowned them champions.
In the female category, Idia College proved their class with a 2-0 win over St. Angela Grammar School. Strikes from Umoru Fatima and Enoduwenben Favour ensured the girls lifted the coveted trophy.
However, the defining moment of the day came after the final whistle, when Governor Monday Okpebolo personally handed over two brand-new Toyota Hiace buses, one each to Ogbe Secondary School and Idia College. The governor’s generous gesture sparked wild celebrations among students, staff, and supporters of both schools.
“This is our way of encouraging grassroots sports and rewarding excellence,” Governor Okpebolo said during the presentation ceremony. “Education and sports go hand in hand, and we are committed to nurturing young talents in Edo State.”
The event was graced by notable dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa, Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Blessing Agbebaku, Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, and Chairman of the Edo Sports Commission, Amadin Enabulele.
The Governor’s intervention is widely seen as a morale booster for school sports development in Edo State, with many stakeholders hailing the administration’s commitment to youth empowerment through sporting initiatives.
