On Top Of The World': Osahon Relishes Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament Moment Of Glory.

 FC Robo Queens of Lagos on Friday won the second edition of the Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament, after recording a 1-0 victory over Edo Queens at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin. 

Osahon, who was known for his convivial expressions throughout the tournament, smiles with glee as the team grabbed him and began to toss him gently into the air after the game. 

Scenes of ecstasy spread around the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium after the final whistle, as the fanfare continued despite the fact that the home team, Edo Queens failed to take the day. 

The tournament, which is Nigeria’s only pre-season women football championship, is the brainchild of the Wife of the Edo State Governor, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki. The tournament themed, ‘Say No to Drugs’ is aimed at raising awareness on the adverse effects of drug abuse among youths.

A smiling Edo State First Lady, Mrs Betsy Obaseki, dressed in red and a touch of white, marched along with other dignitaries, including her Husband, Governor Godwin Obaseki, Minister for Sports, Sunday Dare, Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Phillip Shuaib, former Minister for Sports, Solomon Dalung, NWFL Chairperson, Aisha Falode, Governors' wives from Sokoto, Enugu, Delta, Abia, Ogun, Oyo, Taraba, and Bayelsa State, led by Chairperson of the Nigeria Governors' Wives Forum and first Lady of Ekiti State, Erelu Olabisi Fayemi, among others and gave the tournament's trophy to FC Robo Queens Captain Gift Monday.

"I am really, really happy," We worked very hard for this and I think we deserve this. Edo Queens are a very good side and no doubt, gave us a lot of fight. 


"I want to thank the Organisers and everyone involved in this tournament, most especially, Mrs Betsy Obaseki. This initiative is one we are all proud of. I am ontop of the world. I must confess." He concluded.

Gasau Hails Engineer Adeleke, Future Eagles To Camp At Lanreleke Sports Academy

NFF President Ibrahim Gasau has poured encomiums on Engineer Lanre Adeleke, as he informed that the national U-15 male team tagged Future Eagles and its female counterpart will be camping at the Lanreleke Sports Academy in Ileogbo.  Lanreleke Sports Academy was founded in 2021 and is a co-educational facility, fully residential and specialist Senior Secondary School.  The nation's apex football egg-head who was on a working visit to Osun State, had a first-hand assessment of the level of football development in the state and also saw the sports facilities put in place by the government and private individuals.  Gasau was led by the Osun State Football Association boss Sola Fanawopo to the Lanreleke Sports Academy in Ileogbo,  Gasau who didn't hide his delight after seeing the state-of-the-art facilities at the Lanreleke Sports Academy said.  "Let me start by applauding the vision of Engineer Lanre Adeleke, this is a huge investment towards developing the youths in Ileogbo.

Thirty Clubs Register For Osun State Football League 23/24 Season

30 football clubs have been cleared by the Osun State Football Association to participate in the Osun State Football League, 23/24 Season, scheduled to kick off in the first quarters of 2024.  In a press statement issued by Mr. Amoo Abayomi, the Secretary of Osun FA, the clubs have been placed into four groups to minimize traveling and by the participating clubs.  He disclosed that the football association will announce the venues to host the four groups as soon as possible. “Security of players, good playing pitches, and television-friendly grounds are some of the variables that will determine the selections of the venues,” the Amoo further explained.
