Community Spirit Shines Bright As Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke Memorial Cup Enters Quarterfinal Stage


The Round of 16 of the Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke Memorial Cup delivered an unforgettable day of football, grit, and emotional intensity. 




The tournament, now in its fifth edition, continues to embody the spirit of community, sportsmanship, and the legacy of Otunba Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke, Osun State’s first civilian governor. Powered by Hon. Bamidele Salam, it has grown into a platform where local talents shine and rivalries are etched into history.



The day kicked off with a breathtaking clash between Ejigbo LG and Irepodun LG. From the onset, both teams displayed relentless energy, with Ejigbo’s LG, finding the net in the 23rd minute. Irepodun LG responded with a stunning equalizer from their captain, in the 62nd minute, leveling the game. The match headed into a tense penalty shootout where Ejigbo's goalkeeper, Segun Adedeji, emerged as the hero, saving two decisive spot-kicks. Ejigbo LG advanced, leaving Irepodun’s fans heartbroken but proud of their team’s fight.


Boripe LG and Odootin LG brought a strategic, defense-oriented game to the pitch. The deadlock was finally broken in the 78th minute when Boripe’s midfielder, Sikiru Lawal, unleashed a curling strike from outside the box. Odootin LG struggled to respond, despite a late rally in injury time. The single goal was enough to send Boripe LG into the quarterfinals, where they’ll carry the hopes of their loyal supporters.


The most evenly matched contest of the night saw Isokan LG and Ede South LG battle for 90 minutes without a goal. Both defenses stood firm, thwarting every attempt with precision. In the penalty shootout, the nerves were palpable as each player stepped up. Ede South LG edged out Isokan LG with a razor-thin 5-4 victory.  The ecstatic celebration that followed reflected the high stakes of the tournament.



Closing the day, Orolu LG faced off against Ifelodun LG in a tactical duel. Despite waves of attack and counterattack, neither side could find the breakthrough. The game headed into penalties, where Ifelodun LG displayed superior composure, converting five out of five spot-kicks. Orolu’s missed penalty in the third round proved costly, sealing their fate. Ifelodun LG’s goalkeeper, became a local hero with his crucial save that kept their hopes alive.



As the quarterfinals loom, the competition grows fiercer. The remaining teams now set their sights on the coveted trophy, representing not just victory but also the enduring legacy of Otunba Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke. This tournament, rich in passion and camaraderie, continues to bring communities together, fostering unity and showcasing Osun’s abundant football talent.
